Closure of this Website June 2024

The website has not been updated for some considerable time. It started over ten years ago to highlight the churches in Leicestershire and Rutland and to give indications on whether they are open or not. I have always been a keen advocate of ‘open churches’, unfortunately Leicestershire has a poor record for this.

I have now moved to Lincolnshire and therefore will not complete this project, I am happy to say Lincs churches are mostly open.

Therefore I will be shutting down this website in June 2024. I am open to anyone wishing to take it over but they will need some website knowledge. Also note we have received no help financially with the hosting etc, so be prepared for a yearly outlay.

  3. So sad to hear that you will be closing the website. I wish that we had found it before we tramped around in the rain in October 2023 looking for the church. Wish we had found the churchyard. Bagworth looked quite economically depressed and probably not at all like the place my great-grandmother was born and raised.
We were hoping to find some traces of the Dowell Family and the Crowshaw-Harris ancestors.
Hope to go back one day (we live in Canada).
Thanks for making a useful and helpful website.
Best of everything for your future endevours.

  5. Really sad to hear this. For some years now I’ve enjoyed using your website to choose local churches to visit and would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the excellent work you’ve done over the years. I wonder if you could possibly archive the website so that it could be accessed in some way? (Though I have no idea how this could be done.) Would a drive to raise some funds be possible? Nevertheless many, many thanks for the really wonderful work.
