Old Church Images

I have been in contact with Nick Miller from Newcastle who has a collection of old images from postcards and photographs of churches in Leicestershire and Rutland. He has kindly given permission for these to be added to the site and I attach a selection below of this excellent resource.

Nick says he picks up the images at  postcard or ephemera fairs when he has the chance to go, occasionally in second hand book shops or similar.

“They represent a confluence of several areas of interest of mine – interest in history of church architecture/buildings, interest in local history (most of the cards and photos I have are of non-church subjects), and also interest in family history. Several generations of my family came from Leicester(shire) and Rutland and I grew up in Leicester. Which is why most of the images I have are from Leics – a few from Rutland, Notts, Lincs, Northants, but not many from elsewhere.”

The one with the bells is believed to be Medbourne church, but if anyone can confirm this it would be appreciated. I would like to thank Nick for his generosity in allowing these images to be added to the site. The idea is to create a gallery for the old images (of which there are around 30) and then add specific images to each entry.

There are some dated but most we think date from the late part of the 19th century and early 20th century.
