Sunday 11th September
Yesterday was the 'Ride and Stride' event, I did manage to visit one church on my way to complete some work - but it was locked, although it was only 09:45. Not a good start.By the time I had completed my tasks it was late afternoon and I needed to get home so I did not even make one.
Anyway back to updates, I will have All Saints with Holy Trinity at Loughborough added by mid week. I will need to get out in the next few weekends to collect some more images.
Online ordering of prints and digital downloads coming along in next few weeks as well as our 2012 calender for sale.

Friday 2nd September
I have completed our yearly look at the 'top twenty' churches to visit in Leicestershire & Rutland. Been a few changes since last year with Rutland making an impact with a few additions. Good to see so many open in Rutland.
All of them are worth a look and there are even more in the directory pages.

Sunday 21st August 2011
St Peter's at Belgrave has been added today. Now closed and up for sale this is the first church in the city to be added. It has some interesting features, a good chancel, a fine Elizabethan monument and it is near to Belgrave Hall, read more via the Directory page. There will be another addition this week.

Rid & Stride is on 10th Sept, you can visit many churches that are usually locked so visit the site by 'clicking' the yellow text above.
We have now added an 'articles' section to the site. This includes a very informative piece by Janice Morris on the medieval wall paintings in Leicestershire & Rutland churches and is well worth a read. There are also images and a PDF download.

Sunday 14th August 2011
I have added the entry for St Bartholomew's at Quorn today. My thanks to Sue Templeton for the article on the church and for organising access to the chapel. The church is open on Saturday mornings for you to visit.
I am adding my first church in Leicester. St Peter's at Belgrave is now up for sale but I managed to visit and photograph the church so look out for this mid-week.

Friday 5th August 2011
The church at Sutton Cheney has been added this evening. It has some interesting history and features and is well worth a visit. It is also very near to the Battle of Bosworth centre and there is a link - so visit the directory page and follow the link to find out more.
There will be another addition this weekend as we attempt to increase the number of updates, we have been rather slow on these the last month but we do intend to increase the additions.
We also have a section to be added on medieval wall paintings which the author has given permission for us to be put online. There will be images and a indepth report so look out for this.
Keep checking back for more information and updates.

Sunday 31st July
After a break for two weeks we are now back and looking forward to adding more churches in the coming months.
This week I will be adding the church at Sutton Cheney and hopefully another at Misterton.
I also need to get out and gather a few more images to keep us going during the winter. So I will be concentrating on completing Rutland and east and south Leicestershire.

Saturday 16th July
I am looking for a assistant editor to help out on the write-ups for each church. It does have its benefits, travelling around Leicestershire & Rutland with me visiting the remaining churches, as well as getting you name on the website.
Basically it is writing up perhaps 1 or 2 churches per week with around 800-1200 words. I can supply research material for the basic background information. If you look at the entries you will see the kind of write-ups we are looking for. I am afraid it is unpaid (the whole site is unfunded) but it perhaps may interest some of you.
The reason for this is time. I am extremely busy with other projects and its time to perhaps to gain a editor who can help out.
If you are interested, use the contact form or drop me an email at chris.jones@leicesterphoto.com and I will be in touch in a week or two.

Sunday 26th June
What a lovely day - pity I have had to re-felt the garden shed, managed to hit the wrong nail with my hammer and my thumb is nice and black!
I managed to visit St Peters at Belgrave (thanks to Elizabeth at Andrew Granger estates) and completed the photography. I also managed to get some shots of nearby Belgrave Hall, again thanks to the warden who let me in. If you click on the thumbnail below you can see the interior of the church - I will have it added soon. I am also hoping to complete some more 'closing' churches, most situated in Leicester. By the way St Peters is up for sale for £150,000 if you are interested?

Monday 20th June
I have added another church up the Wreake valley with All Saints at Rotherby. Underwent a poor Victorian restoration that seems to have removed any medieval features and replaced them with modern counterparts.
I am visiting St Peter's at Belgrave soon. This church (as well as some others in Leicester) is currently up for sale so I want to complete this one (and the others) before they are sold. It is a Grade II listed building with an asking price of around £150k. Permission has been given for other usage such as commercial etc. I will have some images of the church to show you soon and its history of course.

Funding the Site

The site is funded by LeicesterPhoto Design as a not for profit site. The costs for hosting, equipment depreciation and travel amounts to approx £4500 per annum.
No grants are available so my only source of revenue is prints from the images on this website all are available for sale contact me for more info or see the Prints section on the Directory Page.
The intention in 2011 is to either find a sponsor, add adverts to the site (which I do not really want to do) or examine other ways of funding the site to cover the basic costs and equipment depreciation.
